it's been a few days since i've had some time to really sit down and write something. so, here it goes...
what happened to Howard Dean?? I wasn't to thrilled with his campaign as it was going, but it looked like he was going to be a certainty for the democratic nomination. i'm still undecided as to how i will eventually vote. i'm a registered dem, but i'm not really a partisan voter. having said that, i also don't think that bush is a bad guy... he's not particularly articulate, but to be honest, most people i know aren't. besides, you know it's ashcroft and rumsfield pretty much running the show there anyway. i'm glad we caught saddam hussein... i think going into iraq so fast made us look bad, because if we were going for imminent danger, north korea might have been the ticket. but, honestly, we can debate whether or not we "shoulda" all day long. i've lived in a third world country, and i think i can understand what iraqis have had to go through under a stringent regime. they deserve some freedom, and i hope we can help them get it.
as far as john kerry, i honestly think he'll give bush a run for his money, and not just because his wife is the Heinz ketchup heir. Kerry has a very Clinton-esque charm that could carry him through the elections. still, at this point, the chances of anyone beating bush are probably not that good, and we'll see how things shape up.
i've had midterms the last few weeks... they've ranged from great to "oh man... what in the world was that". it seems i do better in the upper division class, mostly because i'm a very conceptual learner, and i do best when i can express things through writing. i'm usually good at memorization if i have to be, but it's definitely not something that i would call "quality learning"... and most of the lower division classes are all about "knowing EVERYTHING" for a midterm... and i don't like that.
hmmm... i 'm at work right now, and i'm superfreak tired. i was up late studying one of said midterms, and it didn't go so well. sometimes i wish i was one of these people who just LIGHTS up when the sun rises in the morning... except, those people usually also go to bed a lot earlier than i do. i rarely get to bed before 2am, and it's such a habit now, i'm not sure how long it would take to break it. stupid nick at nite, keeping me up all the time.
i'm excited for tomorrow... i'm going to portland with kären to see one of my favorite bands, the ever wonderful "Low". all week long, when people have asked me what i'm doing this weekend, and i mention a concert, people get excited and ask, "really? who are you going to see?. when i tell them it's "low" they look at me with that, "umm... what's one of their hit songs?".
heh... well, anyway... low is a great group made up of husband and wife team alan sparhawk and mimi parker (guitars and percussion, respectively) with their friend zak sally on bass. alan sings most of the vocals, though some of their lushest pieces feature mimi. click HERE to hear some of their music. Laser Beam is the first that I ever heard... and Two Step is one of their most requested at live shows.
