So, I finally got the chance to see the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," with Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton. I know, it's been out for a while, but I purposely waited until it came to the local $1.50 theater.

You see, I grew up watching the original 1971 film adaptation with Gene Wilder in the starring role, and after seeing the initial trailers for the film

Sept. 7: Minus the Bear (with These Arms are Snakes) at the Hawthorne Theater in Portland, Ore.

Sept. 20: The Arcade Fire (with the Bell Orchestre and Wolf Parade) at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Ore.

Oct. 12: The Killers (with British Sea Power) at Key Arena in Seattle, Wash.

Oct. 18: Minus the Bear at WOW Hall in Eugene, Ore.

Oct. 25: Weezer and Foo Fighters (with Hot Hot Heat) at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Ore.

Nov. 17: Death Cab for Cutie at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Ore.

I have this great friend who actually reads this blog. Her name is Missy... she's really nice and quite attractive and single. So, if you're LDS, an RM and not a dork, give me an email and I'll see if maybe you're good enough for her. For $10, I'll even put in a good word.

The Arcade Fire is by far one of the greatest musical acts of our time. If you have not taken a chance to listen to them, you owe it to yourself. Last night's show at the Crystal Ballroom was phenomenal. I was right next to the stage and even managed to nab a copy of the setlist at the end of the night (right).

I got a job!! I'm officially the new sports editor at the Cottage Grove Sentinel, a weekly newspaper in Cottage Grove, Ore.

Could it really be true? A reunion of one of the greatest bands -- in my opinion -- ever?

Apparently, Billy Corgan took out full-page ads in the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune annoucing that he would reunite the band.
"For a year now I have walked around with a secret," Corgan wrote in the ad. "Now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again."
